In October 1998, a 21-year-old student at the University of Wyoming was kidnapped, severely beaten, and left tied to a fence in the middle of the prairie outside Laramie, Wyoming. He died five days later. His name was Matthew Shepard. He was the victim of this assault because he was gay. Hailed as one of the most captivating and encompassing pieces of contemporary theatre, The Laramie Project challenges and moves us as it reveals the depth of hatred and the greatest heights of compassion that lie within all of us as human beings.
