Art, a comedy, which raises questions about art and friendship, concerns three long-time friends, Serge, Marc, and Yvan. Serge, indulging his penchant for modern art, buys a large, expensive, completely white painting. Marc is horrified, and their relationship suffers considerable strain as a result of their differing opinions about what constitutes “art”. Yvan, caught in the middle of the conflict, tries to please and mollify both of them.
Michael Siebrass (the director) is looking for three actors, all male, 20s to 60s. The actual ages of the characters are not specified and we will determine our cast based on abilities, synergy, and credibility rather than fixed ages. The original Broadway cast included Alan Alda, Victor Garber, and Alfred Molina.
Auditions are Tues July 5th at SLO Little Theatre with callbacks on the 6th and 7th. Actors will read sides from the script. A copy of the script is available for perusal at the Reference Desk on the second floor of the San Luis Obispo main library. Since we looking for 3 actors who have been friends for many years, if you have friends who are actors with whom you would like to audition, please encourage them to accompany you to the auditions.
Performances are August 26 through Sept 18.
