FOUR MUSICAL LEGENDS. ONE FABULOUS SHOW!

SLO REP is thrilled to present the award-winning musical Million Dollar Quartet, LIVE ONSTAGE!

Million Dollar Quartet is inspired by a historic, spontaneous jam session that took place on December 4, 1956, at Sun Studio in Memphis, Tennessee. This legendary session brought together four of rock and roll’s most iconic figures: Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis, and Carl Perkins. The event was unexpected, with these stars crossing paths in the recording studio, leading to an impromptu performance that would go down in history.

The session was first captured on tape by the studio’s owner, Sam Phillips, who was the mastermind behind discovering and launching the careers of these artists. Although the musicians didn’t perform together often, that day, their talents meshed in a unique way that has fascinated music fans ever since. The quartet performed a mix of gospel, rock, blues, and country tunes, including hits like “Blue Suede Shoes” and “Whole Lotta Shakin’ Goin’ On.”

In 2007, the real-life jam session was brought to the stage in Million Dollar Quartet, a jukebox musical created by Colin Escott and Floyd Mutrux. The show premiered in Chicago, eventually making its way to Broadway in 2010, where it gained critical acclaim for its energetic performances and nostalgic celebration of early rock ‘n’ roll. The production recreated the magic of that historic night, allowing audiences to witness the chemistry between these musical legends in an engaging, high-energy show.

The story of the Million Dollar Quartet is a testament to the power of spontaneous creativity and the way it can shape the course of music history. The musical continues to entertain audiences worldwide, keeping the spirit of that fateful jam session alive.
