THE NERD closed last weekend after three weeks of sold out and nearly sold out performances and you know what that means, don’t you? That means it’s time for another Ubu’s Other Shoe Staged Reading!
Bryony Lavery‘s FROZEN is an extraordinary play that entwines the lives of a murderer, the mother of one of his victims and his psychologist to explore our capacity for forgiveness, remorse and change after an act that would seem to rule them out entirely. Needless to say, this is NOT a show for kids, but for adults who love the challenging, cutting-edge works that have become the signature of our Ubu’s Other Shoe Staged Readings, this will be one of the best. It is “a big, brave, compassionate play about grief, revenge, forgiveness and bearing the unbearable” (The Guardian.) This show will possibly shock you, definitely challenge you, and may ultimately leave you with just a little more hope for the human race….in spite of ourselves.
Directed by Jill Turnbow, FROZEN features the considerable talents of David Norum, Katy Dore, Mary Ann Maloof and Jo Jackson. Frozen plays three shows only: Friday, April 21 at 7 pm and Saturday, April 22 at 2 pm and 7 pm. Tickets for Friday night are $15 and there will be a talk back after the show. On Saturday, you can take advantage of our “Ubu Fan” discount and get half price tickets. Just enter the promo code: #ubufan when you order online and your tickets are just $8. Hope to see you there.
Our Academy of Creative Theatre students are “getting into the act” with their own staged reading next weekend! BEAU JEST by James Sherman is a delightful family comedy that is taking the regional theatre circuit by storm this year with multiple performances around the country. Our talented students will present a staged reading of the show on Friday, April 28 at 7 pm and Saturday, April 29 at 2 pm and 7 pm. Tickets are just $12 and may be purchased HERE.
Presented once each year, the ACT Staged Readings provide a forum for advanced students to take on more challenging works in the intimate atmosphere of reader’s theatre. Beau Jest is directed by Felicia Hall and features the talents of Jed Authier, Carly Crow, Penny DellaPelle, Elliot Peters, Phineas Peters and Drew VanderWeele.
TEEN MONOLOGUES is a powerful teen theatre outreach project offering a bold message of understanding, encouragement and hope. Written and produced by local San Luis Obispo County youth, the original play presents a realistic and honest portrayal of navigating relationships and the challenges of sexual decision making. Presented by CAPSLO, Teen Monologues is celebrating its 15th year of using theatre to encourage discussion of this important topic among both youth and adults. The Little Theatre is proud to partner with CAPSLO on this event by offering up the theatre for both rehearsals and for the Teen Monologues Community Performance, which is open to the public on Thursday, April 27th with two showtimes at 6:30 pm & 8:30 pm. There will be live music and a dessert reception starting one half hour before each show. You can purchase your tickets for this unique and creative performance HERE.
